Leaf blowers and other gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment (GLGE) have become all too prevalent in the year-round care of our lawns and public spaces. A 2015 study by the EPA and Quiet Communities indicates there were over 120 million pieces of GLGEs in the United States in 2011, with that number steadily rising. The 2-stroke engines in gas leaf blowers (GLBs) releases 300 times the levels of hydrocarbons as vehicles on the road. Running one for 1 hour is equivalent to the pollutants released by driving a car 1100 miles.
As the American Public Health Association states, we are in the midst of a public health crisis. Find out how you can be part of the solution to end excessive noise pollution and environmental impacts from leaf blowers, and to regain our quiet communities one at a time. Hundreds of municipalities already have.
